Annual General Meeting 2019

As we come to the end of the 18/19 year, we looked back at the past year and discussed topics for the future of the group, as well as some presentations thrown in too.

The meeting was opened by Duncan Cogger (Group Scout Leader) and began with a special dedication to Trevor James, our former Cub Scout Leader. Duncan told us of Trevor’s origins with the group, his scouting journey starting with a simple offer to sweep the hall after cub meetings. After 10 years, Trevor has decide to step down. Thanks for 10 amazing year Trevor!

Next the Executive roles in the committee were nominated and we are pleased to say that those in roles will continue to do so for another year. Lindsay then reminded us of the importance of attending fundraising events, and explained how funding for activities and camps was obtained and how the group subsidies activities so that our members can experience a great programme.

The meeting wrapped up with some presentations…

New Scout of the Year:- Mann
Scout of the Year:- Jina

New Explorer of the Year:- Milan
Explorer(s) of the Year:- Ryan & Caitlin

Congratulations to the winners!

The evening was concluded with a lovely BBQ, with great food and even greater company. Here’s to another great year!

All American Adventure – Family Camp 2019

We joined the All American Adventure, and event run by the County to celebrate and send off the GLMW Jamboree contingent, including Shereya, one of our very own Explorers.

This camp was also our Family camp, an opportunity for parents to experience some of the joys of camping as a Scout. We enjoyed a fun and interesting programme themed around America, the home of the next Scout Jamboree this summer. Ghostbuster, Back to the Future, Grease and Toy Story were on the agenda with our own mascots Woody (Toy Story) and Winston (Ghostbusters).

Camp was enjoyed by all with young people enjoy spending time with each other and playing games and partaking in activities with friends in and outside the group. Well done to the Scouts/Explorers whose film project won the the Film Making award out of all the entries submitted over the weekend. Parents were also part of the fun especially Mums who were lining up to take photos of there husbands doing the washing up!

Overall a great weekend of camping and I’m sure there are more families that can’t wait for our next family camp in a couple years time.
